    Fire Risk

Assess wildfire risk on any area up to 10,000 hectares by combining the EFFIS structural risk index (4-factor AHP composite), NASA FIRMS VIIRS active fires over a 12-60 month window, GDACS historical events, and CMIP6 Fire Weather Index projections under SSP1, SSP2, SSP3 and SSP5 scenarios. Results include a risk gauge, interactive map, timeline charts, correlations with aridity and land cover, an AI-generated synthesis by Claude in your language, and a printable HTML report plus a shareable social card.

    Who Uses This Tool

Professionals who rely on this analysis

    Fire-risk consultants and experts

Run rapid risk screenings for prevention studies, forest fire plans and technical assessments, combining EFFIS, VIIRS and FWI projections in a single shareable report.

    Civil-protection and local authorities

Support emergency planning at municipal level with GDACS historical data, the EFFIS structural composite and climate scenarios to identify critical areas and prioritise interventions.

    Insurance underwriters

Quantify wildfire exposure for assets and portfolios with structural scoring, VIIRS historical trends and FWI scenario projections — useful for pricing and technical reserves.

    Land managers and foresters

Monitor risk on forest and agricultural holdings by combining the structural index, historical events and correlations with aridity and land cover to plan preventive silviculture.

    What you can do

EFFIS structural fire-risk composite (AHP, 4 factors, 5-class raster: fuel, topography, climate, human pressure)
NASA FIRMS VIIRS active-fire timeline over 12-60 months with confidence-coded detections
GDACS historical wildfire events since 2000 with severity (green/orange/red) and burned hectares
    CMIP6 Fire Weather Index projections under SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios
AI-generated synthesis (Claude) in the user's language that interprets the KPIs and contextualises key numbers
Printable A4 HTML report with gauge, map, charts and editable comments, plus exportable social card

    How it works

    1

    Draw or upload your area

Sketch a polygon on the interactive map, search an address, or import a KML/GeoJSON file to define the study area. Areas up to 10,000 hectares are supported, and a satellite preview shows the polygon boundaries.

    2

Configure time window and climate scenarios

Pick the VIIRS window (12, 24, 36 or 60 months), choose the CMIP6 FWI scenarios you need (SSP1, SSP2, SSP3, SSP5) and review the credit estimate before launching. Previously analysed areas are re-accessible at zero cost.

    3

Explore the dashboard and download the report

Review the EFFIS risk gauge, the active-fire and historical-event map, per-scenario FWI timeline charts, correlations with aridity and land cover, and the AI synthesis. Download the printable HTML report, generate the social card, or share the dashboard via link.

    Data Sources & Methodology

The tool integrates the EFFIS structural index, NASA FIRMS VIIRS active fires, GDACS historical events and CMIP6 Fire Weather Index projections into a single coherent view. The EFFIS composite is built via a 4-factor AHP (fuel, topography, climate, human pressure) rasterised into 5 classes, while VIIRS and FWI provide the observational and forward-looking components of the risk.

EFFIS — European Forest Fire Information System
Structural fire-risk index (AHP composite 0-1, 5 classes) from the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, covering fuel, topography, climate and human pressure.
    NASA VIIRS (FIRMS)
375 m active-fire detections from the VIIRS sensors on Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 via the Fire Information for Resource Management System, with confidence-level coding.
GDACS — Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System
Historical catalogue of wildfire events since 2000 with alert level (green/orange/red), burned hectares and event metadata.
    CMIP6 Fire Weather Index
Canadian Fire Weather Index projections based on CMIP6 models under SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios to 2100.
Copernicus Land Cover / ESA WorldCover
Global 10 m land-cover maps used to contextualise risk against natural, agricultural and urban areas.
EU EFFISCopernicus Emergency Management ServiceCMIP6 (WCRP)with indicators aligned with TCFD and ESRS E1 physical-risk disclosure.
