The MSA Infrastructure component (MSA_I) quantifies the impact of anthropic infrastructure on native species abundance for each CLC land cover class. It is one of six sub-components of the composite Mean Species Abundance (MSA) indicator.
MSA_I is derived from the GLOBIO model (PBL Netherlands) and estimates how roads, buildings, transport networks, industrial areas, and other built infrastructure reduce biological diversity through direct habitat destruction, noise disturbance, light pollution, and barrier effects on species movement.
Values range from 0.67 (severe infrastructure impact — strong abundance reduction) to 1.0 (no detectable infrastructure impact). The range reflects the fact that urban and industrial areas are among the most impactful drivers of local biodiversity loss.

MSA component for infrastructure. The MSA_I value for each CLC class is derived from the GLOBIO model, estimating the impact of roads, buildings, and industrial areas on biodiversity. The overall value is the area-weighted average of MSA_I values. Range: 0.67–1.0. Current version: v0.
