Historical Climate — Sunshine Duration

Overview

The Historical Climate — Sunshine Duration indicator shows the historical trend of daily direct sunshine duration (hours without significant cloud cover). More specific than simple daylight duration, this variable quantifies the actual direct solar radiation received at the site.

Sunshine duration influences photosynthesis rates, soil thermal accumulation, pollinator life cycles, and agricultural production quality.

Calculation Methodology

Data come from the Open-Meteo Historical Weather API. The variable used is sunshine_duration (direct sunshine duration in seconds). Data are interpolated to the site's geographic position.
