Soil Moisture is one of 12 user-selectable climate variables in the Future Climate KPI. It shows projected daily soil moisture under CMIP6 scenarios. Projections are available for four SSP scenarios (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, SSP5-8.5).
This is an exploratory visualization tool with no A–E quality scores.
Data are sourced from the Open-Meteo Climate API (CMIP6 multi-model ensemble) at ~25 km resolution with daily coverage from 2015 to 2100.
Line Chart. Daily time-series chart showing projected daily soil moisture under CMIP6 scenarios, color-coded by severity.
Purpose: How will soil moisture change at this site under different climate scenarios?
Description: Daily values (m3/m3) as colored dots. A scenario selector allows switching between SSP pathways.
How it's calculated: The projected value is drawn from the selected CMIP6 scenario ensemble for the site's coordinates.
Interpretation example:
A rising trend of red dots from 2050 onward under SSP5-8.5 indicates projected extreme conditions under the high-emissions scenario.
| Source | Provider | Coverage | Resolution | Period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CMIP6 Multi-Model Ensemble | CMIP6 / ECMWF via Open-Meteo | Global | ~25 km | 2015–2100, daily |
Projected values are queried from the Open-Meteo Climate API using the site's centroid coordinates and the selected SSP scenario. The CMIP6 ensemble is bias-corrected against ERA5-Land observations.
