Composite biodiversity score 0-100 with 5-pillar breakdown, ENCORE weights, and regulatory alignment
Answers to the most common questions about this tool
Nature Score is a composite biodiversity score (0-100) that measures the state of nature within a 250-meter area around the selected point. It aggregates 30+ environmental KPI indicators across 5 pillars: Biodiversity Intactness, Land & Ecosystem, Water & Soil, Climate & Atmosphere, and Carbon & Restoration. Each indicator is normalized using ecological reference thresholds (A-E bands), and pillar weights can be automatically calibrated based on the selected ENCORE production process.
The 5 pillars are: (1) Biodiversity Intactness — MSA, pollinators, nesting suitability; (2) Land & Ecosystem — NDVI, natural coverage, soil impermeability; (3) Water & Soil — water quality, erosion, soil moisture; (4) Climate & Atmosphere — temperature, aridity, light pollution, NO2; (5) Carbon & Restoration — carbon stock, evapotranspiration, floral availability. Each pillar receives a score and grade (A-E) and contributes to the overall score based on its assigned weight.
ENCORE (Exploring Natural Capital Opportunities, Risks and Exposure) is a framework that maps economic sectors' dependencies on ecosystem services. By selecting your company's production process, Nature Score automatically calibrates the weights of the 5 pillars based on sector-specific dependencies. For example, an agricultural company will have higher weights on Water & Soil and Biodiversity, while a manufacturing company will have different weights. If you don't select a process, default weights are applied.
Nature Score is designed to align with major biodiversity reporting frameworks: CSRD ESRS E4 (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures), and SBTN (Science Based Targets for Nature). The KPIs and pillars directly map to indicators required by these frameworks, facilitating regulatory documentation preparation.
Yes, you can download a comprehensive PDF report that includes the overall score, pillar breakdown, details of each KPI with values and grades, a radar chart of the environmental profile, a map of the analyzed location, and methodology information. You can also share results as a social-optimized image for social networks.
A Nature Score analysis costs approximately 5 credits. The cost covers satellite environmental data generation, calculation of all KPIs across the 5 pillars, and report production. You can see your available credits and estimated cost on the configuration page before starting the calculation. New users receive free credits upon registration.
