The Historical Climate — Soil Temperature (7–28 cm) indicator shows the historical time series of soil temperature in the upper root zone (7–28 cm), based on ERA5-Land reanalysis data. This layer corresponds to the zone of maximum root density for most herbaceous and shrubby plants. Its thermal conditions directly regulate water and nutrient uptake, root growth, and edaphic fauna activity — earthworms, arthropods, nematodes.
Data from the Open-Meteo Historical Weather API (ERA5-Land reanalysis, 1940–present, ~10 km). Variable: soil_temperature_7_to_28cm.
