Soil Moisture (7-28 cm) is one of 24 user-selectable climate variables in the Historical Climate KPI. It shows the daily time series of daily mean volumetric soil water content in the 7-28 cm layer. This is an exploratory visualization tool with no A-E quality scores.
Data are sourced from the Open-Meteo Historical Weather API (ERA5-Land, ECMWF) at ~10 km resolution with 1940-present, daily coverage.
Line Chart. Daily time-series chart showing daily mean volumetric soil water content in the 7-28 cm layer, color-coded by severity.
Purpose: How has soil moisture (7-28 cm) varied over time?
Description: Daily values (m3/m3) as colored dots from blue (normal) to red (extreme anomaly).
How it's calculated: Each daily value is compared to 1961-1990 reference percentiles and colored accordingly.
Interpretation example:
A cluster of red dots indicates values in the extreme percentiles of the reference distribution.
