Overview

The Historical Climate — Soil Moisture (0–100 cm) indicator shows the historical time series of volumetric water content integrated across the full soil profile (0–100 cm). This indicator provides an integrated view of ecosystem water availability, combining the rapid response of the surface layer with the buffering capacity of deeper layers. It is the most representative parameter of overall soil water status, fundamental for assessing ecosystem resilience to extreme events such as prolonged droughts.

Calculation Methodology

Data from the Open-Meteo Historical Weather API (ERA5-Land reanalysis, 1940–present, ~10 km). Variable: soil_moisture_0_to_100cm.
