This layer represents the organic carbon content of the surface soil layer (0 cm), a key proxy for soil fertility, structure and long-term carbon storage. The map is derived from the OpenLandMap Soil Organic Carbon product (OpenLandMap/SOL/SOL_ORGANIC-CARBON_USDA-6A1C_M/v02, band b0) accessed through Google Earth Engine at roughly 250 m resolution. This asset replaced the earlier SoilGrids/ISRIC soc_mean dataset, which is no longer maintained.

The surface-layer soil organic carbon image is clipped to the polygon and its native values in grams per kilogram are multiplied by 10 to obtain decigrams per kilogram (dg/kg), following the Resource Watch convention. The result is rendered with a sequential brown palette normalised over 0 to 4000 dg/kg (legend breaks at 50, 100, 200, 500 and 4000 dg/kg); minimum, maximum and mean values are computed over the valid pixels of each area.
